เนื่องในวาระโอกาสที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระปรมินทรมหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดช
ทรงเจริญพระชนม์พรรษาครบหกสิบบริบูรณ์ ในวันที่ 5 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2530
"ด้านหน้า" ของบัตรธนาคาร
มีพระบรมฉายาสาทิสลักษณ์พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ทรงเครื่องแบบจอมทัพ
ทรงฉลองพระองค์ครุย ประทับเหนือพระที่นั่งพุดตานกาญจนสิงหาสน์
ณ พระที่นั่งอมรินทรวินิจฉัยมไหยสูรพิมาน มีพระราชลัญจกรประจำพระองค์
ลายช่อกระหนกเปลว และตราธนาคารแห่งประเทศไทย เป็นภาพประกอบ

มีพระบรมฉายาสาทิสลักษณ์พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว
และพระบรมฉายาสาทิสลักษณ์สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ
สมเด็จพระบรมโอรสาธิราชฯ สยามมกุฎราชกุมาร
สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี
และสมเด็จพระเจ้าลูกเธอ เจ้าฟ้าจุฬาภรณวลัยลักษณ์ อัครราชกุมารี

โดยเบื้องซ้ายของด้านหลังบัตรธนาคารมีตราธนาคารแห่งประเทศไทย
ถัดลงมามีปฐมบรมราชโองการ
"เราจะครองแผ่นดินโดยธรรม เพื่อประโยชน์สุขแห่งมหาชนชาวสยาม"
ลักษณะพิเศษของบัตรธนาคารรุ่นนี้ ได้แก่
กระดาษ จาก บริษัทซิเคียวริตี้พริ้นติ้ง(Security Printing Co.)
ประเทศเยอรมนีตะวันตก(ขณะนั้น) มี ลายน้ำรูปสามเหลี่ยม และ
ได้โรยเส้นใยเรืองแสง(Fluorecent Fibers)
ซึ่งมองไม่เห็นด้วยแสงธรรมชาติ แต่จะเห็นเป็นสีแดงและน้ำเงิน
ได้ก็แต่เฉพาะภายใต้รังสีเหนือม่วง (Ultra Violet)
โดยบริษัทซิเคียวริตี้พริ้นติ้งได้เพิ่มเส้นใยเรืองแสงในเนื้อกระดาษให้โดยไม่คิดมูลค่า
นอกจากนี้ยังฝังเส้นใยใส (Security Thread)
เป็นสีธงชาติไทย และพิมพ์อักษรขนาดจิ๋วคำว่า
“ทรงพระเจริญ”
ไว้เป็นระยะ ตามแนวยืนของบัตรธนาคาร
หมึกพิมพ์ พระราชลัญจกรประจำพระองค์ที่มุมบนเบื้องซ้ายด้านหน้า
พิมพ์ด้วยหมึกพิมพ์พิเศษสีเขียวเหลือบน้ำเงิน
ซึ่งจะเปลี่ยนจากสีเขียวเป็นสีน้ำเงินได้โดยการเปลี่ยนมุมมอง
หมึกพิเศษที่ใช้พิมพ์นี้เรียกว่า Optically Variable Ink (OVI)
ซึ่งนับเป็นครั้งแรกที่โรงพิมพ์ธนบัตร ธนาคารแห่งประเทศไทย
นำลักษณะพิเศษนี้มาใช้เพื่อป้องกันการปลอมแปลง โดยบริษัทซิกปา(SICPA)
แห่งประเทศสวิสเซอร์แลนด์ซึ่งมีชื่อเสียงในฐานะผู้ผลิตหมึกพิมพ์
ได้เป็นมอบหมึกพิเศษที่พึ่งจะคิดค้นและผลิตขึ้นได้ไม่นาน ให้จำนวนหนึ่งโดยไม่คิดมูลค่า
